>> advisory function by a supervisor from a training institution;
>> supported by an early childhood contact staff in the workplace.

To help guide the participant through a meaningful experience, an initial meeting will take place including the college supervisor, centre director, early childhood contact staff and participant to ‘set the stage’. At this time the centre will be provided with a Guided Workplace Experience Package to support the participant during their guided workplace experience.

Success will be based on completion of all requirements of the Guided Workplace Experience. Participants will receive a transcript from NSCECE which will identify a ‘complete’ or ‘incomplete’ status for this non credit course.

Independent Study

Enrolled students may complete courses individually or in small groups as Independent Study projects. Students must meet with the Executive Director prior to registration.

Prior Learning Assessment & Recognition

PLAR is a way of obtaining credit for college-level knowledge and/or skills gained outside the classroom through work, information education or volunteer activities. It compares prior learning gained from education, work, life experiences, and personal study to the learning achieved in college courses. If you are able to demonstrate that your prior learning is equivalent to what would normally be acquired through formal courses in the chosen area of college study, then credit is granted. It is important to understand that credit is not awarded simply for your experiences. Credit is awarded for the learning experience that you can both articulate and prove.

It is possible to be credited with up to one-half of the two-year diploma program through PLAR. Any prior learning that is awarded credit will appear on your transcript as “PL”.

Diploma Upgrading

NSCECE offers graduates with a 1-Year diploma the opportunity to upgrade to a 2-Year ECE Diploma. Only six courses are required to upgrade! We offer a flexible model that includes independent study and/or PLAR.
