Today, APSEA (Atlantic Provinces Special Education Authority) came in to speak to NSCECE second year students about BVI (blind or visually impaired) children. It was informative and the students got to do some interactive activities to better understand what it’s like to be BVI.
One of the activities was to wear a pair of goggles with special lenses to simulate different visual impairments. Another activity was a sighted guide walk to show how you should guide a visually impaired person (have them grip your elbow rather than you gripping them and pulling).
It was an interesting experience to have while job shadowing.
