Last week the first years discussed the different types of cognitive and social play. Of course at NSCECE we love hands on experiences so the students created their own games with rules using random materials. We headed out of the classroom and up to the commons for some much needed movement. Teams took turns trying each other’s games out and we had a blast. The experience lead to an insightful discussion around the cognitive skills required in order to engage in the “games with rules” created by peers. We were left feeling energized and with a better understanding of the types of Cognitive play.
