Programs

NSCECE provides a diploma program in Early Childhood Education (ECE) plus an Early Childhood Assistant (ECA) certificate program. The updated Program of Studies page includes course descriptions for students interested in the diploma program. For students who began their studies prior to the academic year 2019-2020, please consult your original Program of Studies.

Accelerated 16-month Early Childhood Education diploma program

This online program (with practicums) meets the Level 2 Classification requirements in Nova Scotia and best suited for those who wish study full-time in the days. Classes will be Monday-Friday from 1:00-5:00 pm with four 4-week block practicums that take place in regulated child care settings in Nova Scotia. Start date is August 31, 2020.

Currently accepting applications for a 2020 intake to start August 31st.

NEW PLAR Pilot ECE diploma program

This online program (with practicums) meets the Level 2 Classification requirements in Nova Scotia is for those currently working in a regulated child care setting in Nova Scotia. Courses are scheduled online in the evenings with practicums taking place in your regulated child care setting in Nova Scotia.

NEW Early Childhood Assistant Certificate Program

This online program (with guided workplace experiences) is Level 1 equivalent for Classification requirements in Nova Scotia. This program is best suited to those currently working in a regulated child care setting in Nova Scotia. Courses are scheduled online in the evenings; the Guided Workplace Experiences (GWEs) takes place in your regulated child care setting.

Academic Courses

Three (3) academic courses required are:
• Child Growth and Development
• Child Guidance I and II
• Play: Pedagogy & Curriculum

Guided Workplace Experience (GWE) I and II

Participants for Level 1 Classification are required to provide proof of completion of TWO GUIDED WORKPLACE EXPERIENCES providing opportunities to link course work with practice. The GWE takes place in your own regulated child care setting.
