Next week our first year students will not be in classes, but will be spending the entire week working at their practicum sites. The following week the second years will be doing the same. This provides a valuable opportunity for the students to become immersed in the child care setting and put what they’ve learned in the classroom into practice. Having more time to fully engage with the children and observe other ECE’s doing so is an important part of the learning process and our program here at NSCECE. This reflects our program’s emphasis on learning by doing, even while in the classroom instead of the child care centre; much of time spent in class here at the college is spent in hands-on activities. After all, it’s how the children learn; why should it be any different as we get older?
