Digging Deeper into Story Writing
Bring along your favourite picture book and be prepared to share one reason why you love it! What makes a story grab the readers’ attention? Compelling characters? Great Dialogue? Showing, not telling? Relatable setting? Believable plot? All of the above and more! Please join Cynthia for a full day session filled with information, examples, writing activities, sharing your writing, and tips on providing useful feedback to others.
Presenter: In 2006, Cynthia d’Entrement (M. Ed) won the Joyce Barkhouse Writing for Children Award for a picture book manuscript. Since that time, she has published two novels for teens. Here most recent story, Oak Island Revenge, has been nominated for a 2014 Red Maple Award. Facilitating over 100 writing workshops, Cynthia thrives on encouraging others to tell their stories.
The Well Functioning Classroom: Classroom Management for an Emergent Curriculum
Structure-with-flexibility is essential for successful classrooms. Together we will:
- Identify evidence-based components of successful classrooms
- Create a plan that supports an emergent approach featuring child independence and active learning
- Build on components that currently work in your classrooms
- Discuss challenges and work together to problem-solve ways to overcome identified barriers
Presenter: As the founder of Paths to Learning, Crystal A. Harms (M. Ed) creates, implements, and closely follows each client’s unique programming, progress, and development. Crystal also provides supervision and training to students at the Nova Scotia College of Early Childhood Education (NSCECE) through the practicum placements.
